Operating from the intimate Wilson Family Black Box Theatre—an underground performance space within the historic Old Courthouse Theatre—this program is run by a 50-year-old community theatre organization with deep professional production experience. The NextGen Youth Theatre program is designed to help young people develop comprehensive theatre skills in an inclusive, family-oriented environment where campers immerse themselves in all aspects of production including acting, technical theatre, directing, stage management, costuming, and front-of-house operations.
The camp offers specialized tracks to suit different interests and age groups. Younger campers (rising 3rd-6th graders) can explore foundational theatre through programs like “Into Neverland,” which draws inspiration from the Peter Pan universe, while older students (rising 7th-12th graders) can dive into Shakespeare with “The Play’s the Thing,” tackle full-scale musical productions with “Matilda Jr.” or “Into the Woods Jr.,” or challenge themselves with the specialized “Grand Guignol Intensive” horror theatre program. Each camp combines drama games, scene work, voice and movement training, creative writing, and hands-on technical skills, culminating in Friday showcases where families can watch campers perform.
All camps run 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM daily as full-day programs, providing an immersive theatre experience. The program emphasizes confidence building, collaboration, and creative expression while exposing young performers to diverse theatrical styles—from classic Shakespeare to contemporary musicals to avant-garde horror theatre. With flexible scheduling options, multi-camp discounts, and sibling discounts available, families can customize their summer theatre experience.
